VAT & MTD: FULLY MANAGED

VAT returns that are right, without the deadline stress.

A VAT return reports the VAT you have charged and reclaimed to HMRC, filed digitally under Making Tax Digital, usually every quarter. Clearsight reconciles every transaction, checks the scheme and the treatment, and files on time from Xero or QuickBooks. You approve; we file.

THE PROBLEM

VAT is where good businesses quietly overpay, or pick up penalties they never needed to.

HOW EVERY QUARTER WORKS

Every VAT quarter, the same four steps.

You keep trading. Behind the scenes we turn your bookkeeping into a checked, compliant return and file it to HMRC. Follow the quarter through.

STEP 01 / 04

Your records flow straight in.

Your bookkeeping feeds into your VAT account through MTD-compatible software with digital links intact: no manual re-keying, no copy-paste, no broken audit trail.

THIS STEP

"428 transactions synced from Xero: digitally linked, no re-keying, ready to review."

WHY IT MATTERS

The VAT itself is easy.
Getting the treatment right is the job.

Reverse charge on subcontractors, partial exemption, the wrong scheme, a mis-coded expense: each quietly costs you money or invites a penalty under the new points regime. We check every transaction has the right treatment, so the number you pay is the number you actually owe.

ESTIMATE YOUR QUARTER

See what a quarter looks like.

Drag to set your standard-rated sales and VATable purchases for the quarter. This is a simple standard-scheme estimate. The real return checks every transaction.

Standard-rated sales (ex VAT)£0
£0£250,000
VATable purchases & expenses (ex VAT)£0
£0£150,000

Assumes the 20% standard rate on all figures. Flat Rate, Cash Accounting, partial exemption and mixed rates change the result. We apply whichever leaves you better off.

FAQ

The questions we hear most.

It depends on your margins, cash flow and how much VAT you reclaim. We model the standard, Flat Rate, Cash Accounting and Annual Accounting schemes against your actual numbers and put you on whichever leaves you better off, then review it as you grow.

Usually one calendar month and seven days after the end of your VAT accounting period, and payment must reach HMRC by the same date. We diarise every deadline and prepare the return early, so paying is the only thing left to do.

You must register once your taxable turnover for the last 12 months passes £90,000, or if you expect to pass it in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration below the threshold can also make sense if you sell to VAT-registered businesses. We'll advise which is right for you.

Yes, all VAT-registered businesses must keep digital records and file through MTD-compatible software. We set that up for you with recognised software and keep the digital links intact end-to-end, so you’re compliant without changing how you work day to day.

We review your recent returns when you join. If we find an error (over- or under-paid), we correct it properly with HMRC, whether that means an adjustment on the next return or a formal disclosure, and we deal with HMRC on your behalf throughout.

Yes. We can pick up part-way through a period, reconcile what’s already been recorded and file the full quarter on time. We handle registration, setup and the switch from your current accountant for you.
